Glass walls let daylight travel through an office while keeping noise and foot traffic apart. Office glass partitions are used for boardrooms, private offices, reception areas and clinics. TemperedGlass.co.za is a free quote service. You fill in one form and we pass your request to independent glaziers and glass suppliers in your area, who quote you directly. We do not supply or install glass ourselves. There is no fee and no obligation, so you can compare quotes from more than one supplier before you decide.

Types of glass office partitions

Most offices choose between a framed system and a frameless one.

  • Framed partitions: glass held in aluminium channels, often with a solid lower panel. A common choice for glass partitions in Johannesburg offices and other large business parks.
  • Frameless glass office walls: panes joined with small clamps or silicone, with fewer visible lines.
  • Glazed doors: hinged, pivot or sliding doors in matching glass.

Typical thicknesses are 8, 10 or 12 mm. Thicker glass suits taller walls and gives a better feel.

Privacy, noise and safety

A clear glass wall can feel exposed. A frosted manifestation film or a frosted band at eye level gives privacy and also warns people that the glass is there. Manifestation is useful in busy corridors.

For boardrooms and consulting rooms, ask about acoustic laminated glass. The interlayer between the panes damps sound better than a single sheet. Sealed door edges matter just as much, because noise travels through gaps.

Glass in doors, side panels and low-level panels must be safety glass. Ask your glazier to confirm what the regulations require for your opening, and look for the permanent safety mark etched in the corner.

Planning and installation

Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after toughening, so every hole and notch is made first. Measurements must be exact, and the supplier usually measures on site before ordering.

  • Check where ceilings, floors and walls are not level.
  • Ask about work after hours to limit disruption.
  • Tenants should get the landlord or body corporate to approve changes.

What affects your quote

We never give prices here, because every office is different. Suppliers will look at:

  • The total length and height of the wall.
  • Framed or frameless, and the glass thickness.
  • Clear, frosted, tinted or acoustic laminated glass.
  • The number and type of doors, locks and hinges.
  • Access, floor level and working hours.

A simple sketch with measurements helps suppliers quote accurately.

Comparing quotes for office glass partitions

The lowest figure is not always the best deal. When your quotes arrive, check:

  • Glass: the type, thickness and finish allowed for, and that it carries the safety mark where it must.
  • Hardware: the hinges, clamps, channels, spigots or frames included, and their finish and grade.
  • Measuring and lead time: who measures, how long the toughened glass takes to arrive, and when it can be fitted.
  • Guarantee and terms: any workmanship guarantee, deposit, payment stages, removal of old glass and how long the price holds.

What to include in your request

  • Give the wall length, height and floor level.
  • Say if you want framed or frameless glass.
  • Mention privacy, noise and fire requirements.
  • State how many glazed doors you need.
  • Note working hours and landlord approval.

Frequently asked questions

Does TemperedGlass.co.za install office glass partitions?
No. TemperedGlass.co.za is a free quote service. You send one request and we pass it to independent glaziers and suppliers near you. They contact you directly with a quote. We do not sell, make or install glass, and there is no obligation.
Is toughened glass required for office partitions?
Often, yes. Safety glass is required in doors, side panels and low-level glazing. Ask your glazier to confirm what the regulations require for your opening, and check for the etched safety mark.
Can glass partitions be soundproof?
Not completely, but they can cut noise a lot. Acoustic laminated glass, thicker panes and tight door seals all help. Ask the supplier what to expect.
How can I add privacy to a glass office wall?
Use frosted glass, a frosted film applied to clear glass, or a pattern band at eye level. Film is easy to change later.
