Glass and glazing in George
George lies between the Outeniqua mountains and the Garden Route coast, with leafy suburbs like Heatherlands, Dormehls Drift and Blanco, golf estates, and holiday homes near Wilderness and Herolds Bay. The climate is mild but wet, with rain at any time of year, so condensation, mould on seals and swollen timber frames are common complaints. Golf estates and sea-view houses use frameless balustrades, stacking doors and large view windows. Coastal homes also face salt and wind, so fittings should be stainless. Local glaziers handle repairs and aluminium work, while toughened panes come from George or Cape Town processors, with deliveries to Knysna, Mossel Bay and the Little Karoo.
Typical shower screens requests in the area come from:
- Security and golf estates: a large fixed walk-in glass panel beside a tiled shower in an estate home
- Coastal homes and holiday flats: a fixed glass screen with 316 stainless clamps beside the bath in a seaside holiday flat
- Family homes: a hinged glass bath screen fitted over the family bath in a main bathroom
- Farms, lodges and guest houses: a walk-in glass shower panel in a guest bathroom at a lodge or guest house
- Shops, restaurants and malls: a glass shower screen in the changing or shower area of a gym or salon
- New builds and developments: bath screens and walk-in glass panels ordered to size once the tiling is finished
