Gauteng
Gauteng is the busiest glass market in the country. Estate homes with frameless sliding doors and first-floor balconies, high-rise apartments, office parks, malls and shopfronts all need safety glass, and crime keeps laminated and security glass in demand. Highveld hail and sudden lightning storms break panes every summer, and large sun-facing windows can crack from thermal stress. Cold winter nights make double glazing worthwhile. The big glass merchants and processors that toughen and laminate glass are based here, so most glaziers can order toughened panes from a local processor, and delivery to estates and outlying plots is usual.

Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga splits into cold, frosty Highveld and the warm, humid Lowveld, and glass work differs in each. Highveld towns around coal and steel have family homes, office blocks and shopfronts, where hail and cold winters make laminated glass and double glazing worth asking about. In the Lowveld, lodges, guest houses and citrus farmhouses near Kruger use big sliding doors and covered-veranda glazing, and humidity brings condensation and corroding fittings. Strong sun can fade furnishings behind clear glass. Smaller towns rely on glaziers who order toughened panes from a Gauteng or Mbombela processor, so allow for lead time and delivery to remote lodges.

North West
North West sits on flat, hot bushveld where glass has to cope with strong sun, dust and sudden thunderstorms. Rustenburg and Potchefstroom have suburban homes, student flats, offices and mining-related business premises, while game lodges and farmhouses use large sliding and stacking doors facing the veld. Solar control glass and film help with heat and glare, and big sun-facing panes are prone to thermal stress breakage. Security glass is a common request on shopfronts and homes. Processors that toughen glass are mostly in Gauteng or the larger towns, so glaziers in smaller centres order panes in and allow for delivery over long distances.

Limpopo
Limpopo is hot for most of the year, so glass here is as much about heat and glare as safety. Lodges, game farms and bushveld homes around Polokwane, Tzaneen and Phalaborwa use large glass doors and wall-to-wall windows facing the veld, and solar control glass, tinting and window film help keep interiors cooler. Heavy summer storms and wind can break panes, and dust works into sliding door tracks. Towns have shopfronts, offices and clinics that need safety glass. Long distances shape supply: glaziers in the main towns order toughened and laminated panes from city processors, so ask about lead times and delivery to remote lodges and farms.
Northern Cape
Northern Cape glazing deals with fierce sun, wind, dust and big swings between day and night. Large west-facing panes suffer thermal stress, so heat-strengthened or toughened glass, solar control coatings and window film are worth discussing. Kimberley has older homes with steel and wooden windows, while Upington, Kathu and Springbok have newer houses, mine offices, guest lodges and shopfronts. Wind-blown sand scratches glass and wears door tracks. The nearest glass processors are far away, in Bloemfontein, Gauteng or Cape Town, so toughened panes arrive by freight with a lead time. Measure carefully, because remakes mean a long wait.
Free State
Free State homes face cold, frosty winters and hot, stormy summers, which makes double glazing and well-sealed aluminium frames worth considering. Hail sweeps across the open plains and breaks windows and skylights, so laminated glass is a sensible question for exposed panes. Bloemfontein has older sandstone and Victorian-era houses with steel or wooden windows, plus offices, clinics and university buildings. Farmhouses and guest lodges fit large sliding doors to catch the view. Glaziers in Bloemfontein, Welkom and Bethlehem cover most jobs, and toughened panes for larger or specialised work usually come from a city processor, so ask about lead time and delivery to farms.
KwaZulu-Natal
KwaZulu-Natal mixes humid coast, warm midlands and cool Berg foothills, so glass is chosen for different reasons. On the coast, sea-view balustrades, sliding doors and apartment balconies face salt air and wind, which corrodes cheap fittings. Stainless 316 and good sealing are worth asking about. Humidity brings condensation and mould around windows and showers. Durban has high-rise apartments, offices and shopfronts, while the midlands have lodges, wedding venues and country homes. Security glass is in steady demand. Glass processors cluster around Durban and Pietermaritzburg, and glaziers on the North and South Coasts order from them, so allow for delivery to outlying farms.

Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape runs from the windy coast around Gqeberha and East London to cooler Karoo-edge towns inland. Coastal holiday homes and apartments use large glass doors and balustrades facing the sea, where strong wind loads and salt air call for thicker glass and stainless 316 fittings. Gqeberha and East London have offices, malls and shopfronts, and the motor industry brings commercial glazing work. Makhanda and Komani have older homes with steel or wooden windows. Inland, hail and summer storms break panes. Processors in Gqeberha and East London toughen glass for the region, and smaller towns order through local glaziers with a lead time.

Western Cape
The Western Cape combines winter rain, dry hot summers and strong coastal wind, and glass is part of the lifestyle. Cape Town has frameless balustrades on mountain and sea-view homes, glass-walled offices, restaurants and apartment blocks, while the Winelands have tasting rooms, guest houses and Cape Dutch homes with large glass doors added. South-easter wind loads and salt air shape glass thickness and fittings. Older Victorian homes often have wooden sash windows. Double glazing helps with damp winters. The province has several large glass processors, so toughened and laminated work is easy to source, with delivery to the Winelands, Garden Route and West Coast.
